Community Invited to "First on 1st" event with the Mayor of Thief River Falls

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, residents are invited to celebrate the opening of the newly completed sidewalk and multi-use trail along 1st Street at a community event hosted by Bike Thief River Falls and Mayor Mike Lorenson.

The event, titled First on 1st, begins at 6 PM at Franklin Middle School. Participants will walk, bike, or roll down Spruce Avenue to a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Mayor Lorenson, officially opening the new 1st Street trail for public use. From there, the group will continue along the newly completed route to the Riverwalk behind Hugo’s. After the ride, attendees can enjoy free ice cream treats.

“This is a great opportunity to highlight the city’s growing network of bike- and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure while bringing the community together in a healthy, inclusive way,” said Megan Maloney, representing Bike Thief River Falls.

People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate—whether on foot, on wheels, or using mobility devices. The event is free and open to the public.
