The Thief River Falls City Forester encompasses a broad range of duties that includes maintenance and reforestation activities to preserve and maintain the City’s boulevard trees, trees in parks, and on public property within city limits. This includes trimming and removal of trees. The primary responsibility for the position is to manage the urban forest in Thief River Falls on both public and private property.
The City Forester also plants new trees to replace those lost to Dutch Elm, as well as new trees in right-of-ways, parks and public spaces. In 2020, there were 150 new trees were planted in the spring. Inspecting trees for infectious diseases is also done to maintain the vitality of the City's urban forest. If the forester identifies a tree on your property as diseased or hazardous, it will be marked and you will be sent a notification letter providing you with removal information.

Mosquito control is also completed by this position. It requires mosquito counts to be taken daily with spraying required as needed.
